Digital Insurance: Why despite safety improvements trucking liability claims rise
The trucking industry is crucial for the distribution of goods across the United States, and it has made significant strides in improving safety over the past two decades. According to a recent study by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Institute for Legal Reform, between 2000 and 2020, despite a 47% increase in large truck vehicle miles traveled (VMT), the rate of fatal crashes per 100 million VMT dropped by 34% (from 2.23 to 1.47). This decline highlights the industry’s commitment to safety through measures such as strict adherence to Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) regulations, advanced technologies like dashcams and telematics, rigorous driver recruitment practices, and better management of driver records.
